Know Everything About All-On-4 Dental Implants

The term All-on-4 means “all” teeth being supported “on four” dental implants. It is a surgical and technique prosthodontics procedure for total restoration of the toothless patient with badly broken down teeth, compromised teeth due to gum disease, or decayed teeth.

The all-On-4 technique is introduced by Portuguese dentist Dr. Paulo Malo in cooperation with Nobel Biocare. This implant procedure comprises the restoration of both edentulous or denudate mandible with fixed artificial teeth by installing four implants in the anterior maxilla, where bone density is higher. The 4 implants support a fixed dental implant of 10 to 14 teeth, and it can be placed within 24 hours of surgery. This is the most effective therapeutic solution for missing teeth in the shortest period of time, without bone grafts.

All-on-4 is a cost-effective alternative to conventional implant techniques. Over time this treatment technique has evolved and consist following features:

  • Four dental implants to hold a full bridge
  • the use of angulated implants to prevent bony losses or anatomical structures
  • immediate filling

Things Involved In The Procedure Of All-On-4 Dental Implants

To determine a patient’s suitability for All-On-4 dental implants, a careful examination will first be done by the dentist; this includes getting impressions, bone density measurement, x-rays, and CT scans. The procedure for placing these implants uses four implants, with the ones installed at the back of the mouth angled to maximize the existing bone in those specific areas.

The implants employed in the All-On-4 procedures are formed to support the immediate fitting of replacement teeth. Patients who are fit for this procedure can get the implants successfully placed in a single dental appointment.

Why All-On-4 Dental Implants?

These implants are comprehensive solutions for people who have missing teeth or have dentures. The entire procedure includes the placement of the dental implants and the immediate fitting of teeth restorations. The All-on-4 treatment concept is a prosthodontic procedure that offers a permanent, screw-retained, same-day restoration of the entire upper and/or lower set of teeth.

If patients have a dense bone in the jaw’s front part can take advantage of this treatment. For successful implementation, a careful analysis of the bone structure needs to be made. The best way to gauge the bone is by a CBCT scan. In this procedure, at least four implants will be placed in a jaw. The back implants are typically angled nearly 30 to 45 degrees. The implant is installed in front of the maxillary sinus in the upper jaw and the mandible. The front of the implant appears in nearly the second premolar position.

What Are The Benefits Of The All-On-4 Technique?

The benefits of the all-On-4 technique are:

  • This procedure provides teeth replacement in a single appointment. In traditional dental implant placement, it takes a few months to be completed.
  • This procedure is cost-effective as there is no need for bone grafts.
  • Save you from undergoing multiple surgeries and recoveries.
  • It prevents your jaw bone from deteriorating.
  • Gives you a natural appearance.
  • Improve oral function.

What Are The Alternatives all-On-4 technique?

The alternatives to the all-On-4 technique are:

Bone Grafts: A bone grafting method to improve the bone mass of the jaw area to support the placement of dental implants.

Traditional Dental Implants: Traditional procedure of dental implants can be used to replace the missing teeth. It involves the restoration of a full arch and bone grafts. The osseointegration takes a few months to heal before the dental crown is fastened to the implant. An abutment is placed, which will hold a dental crown.

Dentures – Dentures can be used to replace missing teeth without any surgery.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of All-On-4 dental implants will depend on the following factors;

  • Diagnostic tests and/or software used,
  • The implant metal,
  • Experience of the doctor as their appointment fee,
  • The teeth restoration quality (dental bridges vs. dentures; porcelain vs. acrylic),
  • Number of implanted teeth,
  • A number of surgeries performed (if you have any existing dental disease).

The cost of the All-On-4 procedure sorely depends on the condition of your jawbones and the treatment you are undergoing.
